This Runway Auction of 60 gowns on 60 models will be constructed from stolen, found and recyclable materials created with the theme of all things Bootleg. Brought to life in the basements of LA’s top Artists and Designers these ravaging Rip Off’s pay homage the top 60 chi-chi Designers of today. Where or how they came into being is better left unknown. All happening at the Bootleg Theater this weekend for your guilty pleasure. This Black Market Catwalk will offer the music stylings of local diva Abby Travis, fashionista host & blackjack dealer Howard Seth Cohen, and sizzling aerialists to satisfy your desire for all things deviant.

Featuring: Abby Travis and Howard Seth Cohen, plus aerial creations by Pamela Samuelson and Svetlana Dekic.

Davy Rothbart - My Heart Is An Idiot - screening @ the BOOTLEG 6.9.11.

My Heart Is An Idiot is a romantic documentary that spans two years and over a hundred cities. The film captures the road-tripping lifestyle of Davy Rothbart (This American Life, FOUND Magazine) who looks for love in all the right places, and in all the wrong ways.

Climb in the van with Davy as he tours North America promoting his magazine FOUND, a virally popular and iconic printed collection of discarded notes and photographs. Along the way, Davy seeks advice on his tortured love life from people he meets (Zooey Deschanel, Ira Glass, Newt Gingrich, Davy’s mom, and others), and attempts to follow that advice, with comic and surprising results. The first feature-length film project from filmmaker David Meiklejohn, My Heart Is An Idiot weaves together multiple stories to illustrate the joys and dangers of romantic pursuit.

Method Contemporary Dance Company Tonight @ the BOOTLEG THEATER

Los Angeles’ cutting edge dance company, Method Contemporary Dance, presents the world premiere of a new contemporary dance work in the heart of Los Angeles. “then see if you still love us” is a non-stop, hyper physical, tour-de-force mediation on love and loss in the modern world. The 60-minute contemporary dance work is choreographed by METHOD Contemporary Dance Artistic Director Bradley Michaud and features dancers Chelsea Asman, Jay Bartley, Nicole Cox, Jessie Harper, Kalani McManus, and Bradley Michaud. “then see if you still love us” will premiere on May 7 and 8 at 8p and May 9 at 7p @ the bodacious Bootleg Theater.

Friday NIght 2.12 @ the BOOTLEG - Chicago Underground Duo

Chicago Underground Duo has been part of a new generation of music improvisers that emerged in Chicago in the 1990’s. Their live shows have often been described as astounding. “Percussionist Chad Taylor and cornet player Rob Mazurek are the Chicago Underground Duo. Since the Chicago Underground collective expands or contracts with each project, they’re also two-thirds of the Chicago Underground Trio and half of the Chicago Underground Quartet. Born in the 1990s out of the fertile Chicago improv scene, the group has, in its various permutations, produced a consistently excellent body of recorded music that mixes large amounts of improvisation with electronica, sampling, and a vast assortment of world music influences that are always organically absorbed and never self-consciously imitated.

Stage Review : PROJECT: WONDERLAND - @ The BOOTLEG

What is Alice In Wonderland about? I never read it. Is there some overriding metaphor that I don't know about? The passage from childhood to adolescence? How old is Alice anyway? I don't know. The story never captured my imagination. Maybe because of my gender. Is it more a girls story? I mean I know it's about a girl but...whatever.

Project: Wonderland doesn't offer any particular insight. It just delivers the story really well. It's beautiful to look at, It works great with a live band and some wonderful live voices. It surrounds you with sensation. Pulls you into the looking glass along with Alice and spits you back out later with no intermission and it feels like no real time has passed at all.

I took a five year old and an eight year old and they didn't flinch. They loved it. It is a perfect introduction to the sensory pleasures of theater and a vividly told story.

I still don't know what the point is but i really don't care.
