Longtime friends and collaborators Automata present a celebration of five years of film screenings, experimental puppet theatre, and other definition-defying events.

The Benefit will feature performances by Paul Zaloom and Laura Heit, Eli Presser, and other guests, along with a silent auction of works by Pat O'Neill, Lynn Jeffries, Ken Jacobs, Cathy Ackers, Jessica Hutchins, Perry Hoberman, and more.

This benefit will support Automata's effort to secure a permanent space for their future exhibitions, performances, and a community woodshop.

Owen Land / George Landow premieres "Dialogues" at Velaslavasay Panorama

This coming Saturday The Velaslavasay Panorama will host an evening with experimental filmmaker Owen Land to preview his forthcoming film, "Dialogues". The first film in a new genre: the postexperimental, oneiric, mythopoetic autobiograph. This two-hour film presents a series of episodic vignettes, loosely based on the constructed personal history of Owen Land, the man formerly known as George Landow. Owen Land will introduce the film and cast members. There will also be books available for sale and signing. This film is intended for adult audiences.

Los Angeles filmmaker Kate Dollenmayer will present her projected and hand-cranked film loop installation inspired by Oskar Fischinger's "Walking From Munich to Berlin" with a live acoustic score by local percussionist and multimedia composer Ross Karre. Visiting Chicago animator Jodie Mack will screen a selection of tiny and medium experimental animations, including "Yard Work is Hard Work," a musical made with cut-outs. Los Angeles-based drummer Corey Fogel will then join forces with Mack for a series of live experiments in film accompanied by improvised live score.

EPFC will host a 16mm loop workshop Saturday, February 7 at 2 PM. Workshop participants will work individually to create various loop techniques and then join in groups to prepare multi-projection performances. Number-one drummer Corey Fogel will oversee local band "MOSES LOOPBELL" in composing and performing sound repetitions with each performance. The groups will perform their creations for the public at 6 PM.
